The Main Street of America Turns 100: A Century of Nostalgia and Freedom on Route 66

In 1926, two visionary business owners—Cyrus Avery of Oklahoma and John Woodruff of Missouri—helped stitch together a patchwork of dirt roads, wagon paths, and rail alignments into a single, continuous artery. Formally assigned as U.S. Route 66 on April 30, 1926, and officially commissioned on November 11 of that year, the highway stretched 2,448 miles from the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago all the way to the Pacific horizon at Santa Monica Pier.

Ancient Buddhist pilgrimage center near Varanasi gains global recognition for its spiritual, archaeological and artistic legacy

Sarnath, one of Buddhism’s most sacred pilgrimage destinations, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, becoming India’s 45th World Heritage Site. The decision was announced on July 25, 2026, during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, Republic of Korea. UNESCO recognized the Ancient Buddhist Site of Sarnath for its exceptional religious, historical and cultural significance.
