A visit to Kuppanna’s Thiru Kuppusamy South Indian Restaurant in Chandler Heights offered a warm reminder of authentic South Indian food, from crispy ghee masala dosa and veg kothu parotta to nostalgic drinks like goli soda and Nannari Sarbath.

Chandler, Arizona — For anyone in the East Valley searching for authentic South Indian flavors, Kuppanna’s Thiru Kuppusamy South Indian Restaurant in Chandler Heights is quickly becoming a place worth noticing.

Located at 955 W. Chandler Heights Road, Suite 1, Chandler, AZ 85248, the restaurant brings a menu rooted strongly in Tamil Nadu-style cooking, with several familiar South Indian favorites served in a warm and welcoming setting.

During a recent visit by Arizona Asians, the experience stood out not only because of the food, but also because of the feeling of authenticity. The restaurant has many items commonly associated with Tamil Nadu cuisine, and the menu includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

For our vegetarian diners, the experience was satisfying. We tried veg kothu parotta, ghee masala dosa, goli soda and Nannari Sarbath. Each item was tasty and carried the flavor of a traditional South Indian meal.

The veg kothu parotta had the familiar street-food comfort of chopped parotta mixed with spices and vegetables. The ghee masala dosa was crisp, flavorful and comforting, with the aroma of ghee giving it a rich South Indian touch. We also understand form other visitors that their favorites non-vegetarian items are Kongu chicken biryani, Kongu Mutton biryani, Chicken Kili Parotta

One pleasant surprise was seeing Nannari Sarbath on the menu. For many people from South India, Nannari is not just a drink; it is a memory. It is a traditional herbal summer cooler made from Nannari syrup, known for its refreshing flavor. Seeing it available in Chandler was unexpected and delightful, especially for those who remember finding this drink in select places back home, including parts of Andhra Pradesh.

The goli soda also added a nostalgic touch. These kinds of beverages make the dining experience feel closer to home for people who grew up with South Indian food culture.

The staff added greatly to the experience. They were friendly, welcoming and comfortable speaking with guests in multiple languages, including English, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. That multilingual warmth gave the restaurant a lively, familiar feeling, making it feel less like a regular dining stop and more like a place where the community can gather comfortably.

Public review listings also show a strong early response from diners, with many customers praising the restaurant’s authentic flavors, service and homestyle feel. As with all public ratings, reviews may change over time, but the current response suggests that the restaurant is already building a loyal following in the Chandler area.

What makes Kuppanna’s Thiru Kuppusamy especially interesting is that it offers a taste experience that feels specific rather than generic. Many Indian restaurants serve broad “Indian cuisine,” but this restaurant appears to lean deeply into regional South Indian identity, especially Tamil Nadu flavors.

They offer more than a meal. They help preserve regional food memories, introduce younger generations to traditional flavors, and give families a familiar place to gather over dosa, parotta, biryani, coffee, sarbath and other favorites.

It is another sign that Arizona’s South Asian food landscape continues to grow richer, more regional and more authentic.
