Dr. Subba Rao Cherukuri has had an accomplished medical career spanning several decades.
After earning his MBBS degree from Andhra Medical College in 1966, he completed his internship at King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam. He later pursued advanced postgraduate training at respected institutions in India and the United Kingdom.
During his years in the United Kingdom, Dr. Cherukuri completed fellowships at hospitals within the National Health Service and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.
After moving to the United States, he completed a fellowship at Huron Road Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, became certified by the American Board of Urology, and earned an MBA in Medical Sciences from Cleveland State University.
Dr. Cherukuri went on to serve for more than 30 years as an attending consultant in Urology in Huron, Ohio. He later continued serving patients in Arizona for more than 16 years.
Throughout his career, he earned the respect of colleagues and patients for his clinical expertise, professionalism, discipline, and compassionate approach to care.
A Scholar, Professional, and Pillar of the Family
Mrs. Kamala Cherukuri pursued Anthropology, developing a deep understanding of human cultures, communities, and relationships. Her academic interests complemented her husband’s medical career and reflected her own lifelong curiosity about society and people.
Kamala also built a diverse professional life. She worked as a real estate agent and later served as executive secretary in her husband’s medical practice.
Her contributions extended far beyond professional responsibilities. She provided the strength, wisdom, stability, and organizational support that helped anchor their family and sustain Dr. Cherukuri’s demanding medical career.

Dr. Madhavi Petali an emergency room physician, and her husband, Dr. Srinivas Petali, live in Exton, Pennsylvania, with their daughters, Maya and Meena.
Dr. Sangeetha Prabhakaran, an intensivist, and her husband, Dr. Dilip Prabhakaran, are parents to their son, Vyas.
Dr. Madhavagopal “Gopi” Venkat Cherukuri has established himself as an accomplished cardiologist, continuing the family’s distinguished legacy in medicine.
Their children and grandchildren reflect the values that Dr. Subba Rao and Kamala Cherukuri have nurtured over the years: hard work, compassion, education, responsibility, and service to others.
Their family stands as one of the most meaningful achievements of their 60-year journey together.
A Life Dedicated to Community Service
Retirement has done little to slow Dr. Cherukuri’s desire to serve.
He remains actively involved in civic and community life, including his role as a Director of the India Association of Arizona. He has also maintained active involvement with the Lions Club in both the United States and India, as well as the International Club of Lorain, Ohio.
In Arizona, Dr. Cherukuri serves on the Board of Ekta Mandir and continues to support cultural, educational, and community programs that strengthen relationships across the state’s diverse communities.
Friends and colleagues describe him as a leader who believes that knowledge and success carry a responsibility to give back.
His service, supported throughout the years by Kamala, reflects the values that have defined their life together.
