Microsoft Raises Xbox Console Prices in the U.S. as Memory Costs Climb
By Arizona Asians Staff Microsoft has increased Xbox console prices in the United States as rising storage and memory costs continue to pressure the consumer-electronics industry. The company said the worldwide price changes took effect on August 1, 2026. Xbox consoles with 512GB of storage are increasing by $100, while 1TB models are increasing by $150. Microsoft is also discontinuing its 2TB model. XBOX Wire
Microsoft’s U.S. Xbox listings currently show the 512GB Xbox Series S at $399.99, the 1TB Series S at $449.99, the 1TB all-digital Xbox Series X at $599.99, and the 1TB Series X with a disc drive at $649.99. Prices and availability may vary by model and retailer. xbox.com
Microsoft Cites Component Costs
Microsoft said prices for console storage components have risen sharply, while memory costs have followed a similar pattern. The company noted that gaming consoles are especially vulnerable because they are often sold with little or no hardware profit margin. XBOX Wire
The latest adjustment follows an earlier U.S. increase of between $20 and $70 in October 2025. Microsoft said it had worked with suppliers to avoid another increase but concluded that higher component costs made the change necessary. XBOX Wire
Higher Cost for American Gamers
The increase could affect families planning to purchase or upgrade a console, particularly when the cost of controllers, games, additional storage and subscriptions is included.
Microsoft said it is expanding payment options, including eligible buy-now-pay-later programs, interest-free financing through participating partners, trade-in opportunities and certified refurbished consoles sold below the price of new systems. Availability and terms vary. XBOX Wire
The company continues to position the Xbox Series S as its lowest-cost current-generation console, but the new pricing narrows the gap between entry-level and premium models.
The increase demonstrates how changes in semiconductor, storage and memory markets can raise the price of established consumer products years after their original release.
