OpenAI has widened access to ChatGPT Ads across Southeast Asia and Taiwan, extending its advertising pilot beyond earlier markets. The rollout reflects the company’s continued push to build a global ads platform while keeping ads separate from ChatGPT’s answers and available only in markets where self-service or partner access is supported.
OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT Ads into Southeast Asia and Taiwan, broadening the company’s advertising push beyond the markets where the product first launched. The move is part of a wider rollout that OpenAI says is designed to support free access to ChatGPT while keeping ads clearly labeled and separate from the chatbot’s answers.
The expansion affects advertisers looking to reach users in markets across the region, including Taiwan, where OpenAI’s help center now lists self-service Ads Manager as available. OpenAI also says advertisers in countries where self-service is not yet available may still be able to get started through its ads team or partner channels, depending on the market.
OpenAI began testing ads in ChatGPT in the United States in February 2026 and has since expanded the pilot in stages. In March, the company said it would begin expanding beyond the U.S. with pilots in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. In May, it announced new ways for businesses to buy and manage ChatGPT ads, including partner access and a beta self-serve Ads Manager.
A broader global ad push
By August, OpenAI said ChatGPT Ads had launched in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Brazil, Japan and South Korea, and the company later expanded the program further into Europe. OpenAI has described the ad product as an early-stage effort and said its core principles remain the same: ads should be clearly labeled, conversations should stay private, and users should keep control over their experience.
For businesses, the latest rollout suggests OpenAI is continuing to scale its ad infrastructure market by market rather than introducing the product everywhere at once. The company has said the broader aim is to build an advertising system that works within ChatGPT’s conversational interface without changing the model’s answers or recommendations.
OpenAI did not specify in the available materials when every Southeast Asian market will receive the same level of access, and availability may differ by country and by access type. The company says businesses interested in advertising in ChatGPT can sign up for updates through its advertising platform.
