Leadership Transitions at Google DeepMind
Demis Hassabis Appointed Chair of GDM & Chief Scientist of Alphabet: Co-founder Demis Hassabis will transition away from day-to-day operational management at Google DeepMind to focus on broad, high-level strategy regarding AGI and global AI policy. Hassabis will also continue leading Isomorphic Labs, focusing heavily on applying AI to biological research and curing major diseases.
Koray Kavukcuoglu Promoted to SVP of Google DeepMind: Kavukcuoglu, formerly CTO of GDM and Chief AI Architect, steps into the role of Senior Vice President. Reporting directly to Sundar Pichai, Kavukcuoglu—a 13-year DeepMind veteran—will oversee Gemini model development, frontier research, and developer ecosystems.
Jeff Dean to Launch Independent Public Benefit Corporation: Legendary computer scientist Jeff Dean, alongside Google Senior Fellow Sanjay Ghemawat, will depart from his current role to establish an independent entity focused on driving breakthroughs in machine learning systems, engineering, and science. Google will serve as a founding investor and Cloud partner.
