Apple Wallet car key support is expanding to Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC

Published on 10/19/2026

General Motors is beginning to roll out Apple Wallet car key support across three of its brands, marking a broader expansion for a feature Apple introduced years ago. The rollout will start with a limited set of vehicles and expand in phases through the end of the year.

Apple Wallet’s digital car key feature is set to reach more drivers as General Motors begins rolling out support across Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. The expansion matters because it brings one of Apple’s more practical Wallet functions to a wider group of mainstream and luxury models, allowing compatible iPhone and Apple Watch users to store a vehicle key digitally.

GM says the rollout has already started in a limited way and will broaden through October and December, with support arriving first on select models before spreading to additional vehicles. The company has indicated that owners will be notified through the “What’s New” section of their vehicle’s app when their model gains support.

Apple first introduced Car Key support years ago as part of its broader Wallet platform, which is designed to let users store digital versions of items such as payment cards, transit passes and keys. When paired with a supported vehicle, the feature can let drivers lock, unlock and start their car with a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch.

Which vehicles are included in the first wave

The initial GM lineup includes nine vehicles spread across the three brands. Cadillac models listed for support are the Vistiq, Optiq, Lyriq, Escalade and Escalade IQ/IQL. Chevrolet’s Suburban and Tahoe are included, along with GMC’s Yukon and Yukon XL. GM says support for all of those models is expected to arrive before the end of the year.

Apple’s car key system has been slow to expand across automakers, but the latest GM rollout suggests the feature is gaining momentum. The technology typically requires cooperation between Apple and each vehicle maker, and support can vary by model, year and region.

GM also says the feature will continue to spread to more of its vehicles over time. For drivers who already use Apple Wallet for payments, tickets or IDs, the addition of car keys could further consolidate everyday essentials inside Apple’s ecosystem.
