Apple has opened preorders for iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, with sales beginning October 16 and in-store availability set for October 23. The launch marks Apple’s entry into the foldable-phone market after years of anticipation around a potential foldable model.

Apple began taking preorders Friday for iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, giving the company a long-anticipated entry into a product category dominated by rivals. The new device goes on sale October 23, marking one of Apple’s most closely watched hardware launches of the year.

Customers in the United States and more than 70 other countries and regions can order the phone through Apple’s website and the Apple Store app starting at 5 a.m. Pacific time on October 16. Apple said additional markets will get the device on October 30, while accessories for the phone are also available to order beginning October 16.

Apple first introduced iPhone Duo in September, describing it as the company’s first foldable iPhone. The phone is available in star white and night sky, and Apple has promoted it as the thinnest iPhone it has ever made when opened. It features a 7.6-inch inner display, a 5.4-inch outer display and a precision-engineered hinge.

A new design for Apple’s flagship line

The launch comes as smartphone makers continue to compete on large screens, foldable designs and artificial intelligence features. Apple said iPhone Duo includes a dual-battery architecture for all-day battery life, runs iOS 27 and is powered by A20 Pro. The company also said the device uses a hidden front camera beneath the inner display when the phone is open.

Apple’s announcement highlights how the company is positioning foldables as an extension of the iPhone line rather than a separate experiment. The device’s two-screen design is meant to shift between a compact phone and a larger display for viewing, gaming and multitasking, according to Apple’s product description.

Apple is also offering a new case and folio accessory for the device, and qualifying buyers can receive three months of Apple One free. The company did not disclose early sales targets, and it was not immediately clear how supply may compare with demand ahead of the October 23 launch.
