Apple Launches New Mac Mini and Mac Studio With Stronger AI Performance
Apple has introduced a new Mac mini with M6 and M5 Pro chips and a new Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra, targeting developers, creators and businesses running demanding AI workloads.
Cupertino, California - Apple has introduced new versions of the Mac mini and Mac Studio, strengthening its desktop lineup as demand grows for computers capable of running artificial intelligence tasks locally.
The new Mac mini is powered by Apple’s latest M6 chip, with an option for M5 Pro. Apple says the M6 is its first 2-nanometer Mac chip and includes a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, Neural Accelerators and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine designed to improve on-device AI performance.
The company said the M6 supports up to 32GB of unified memory and up to 170GB/s memory bandwidth, making the compact desktop more capable for coding, creative work, local AI tools and everyday professional use.
Apple also introduced a new Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra options. The M5 Ultra is Apple’s most powerful chip to date, with up to a 36-core CPU, up to an 80-core GPU, a 32-core Neural Engine and support for up to 512GB of unified memory.
The company is positioning the Mac Studio as a machine for advanced workloads such as AI model development, 3D rendering, visual effects, scientific analysis, video production and large local data processing.
The launch reflects a broader shift in the technology industry toward local AI computing, where developers and businesses run AI models directly on devices instead of relying only on cloud servers. Local processing can improve speed, privacy and control, especially for sensitive data or specialized professional workflows.
Apple said its developer tools and frameworks, including Core ML, Metal, Xcode and Apple Foundation Models, can take advantage of the new chips to run and fine-tune AI models on Mac.
For students, developers, small businesses and creative professionals, the new Mac mini may offer a smaller and more affordable path into Apple’s AI-capable desktop ecosystem. For high-end professionals and AI researchers, the Mac Studio is designed for heavier workloads that need far more graphics power and memory.
The new desktops also come as Apple continues expanding its U.S. manufacturing plans. Earlier this year, Apple announced that Mac mini production would come to a new facility in Houston, marking the first time Mac mini would be produced in the United States.
The new Mac lineup shows how quickly AI is reshaping personal computing. Desktop computers are no longer being marketed only around speed, storage and graphics, but also around their ability to run increasingly powerful AI workloads privately and efficiently.
